English language learners with sight loss are a growing population that, traditionally, have been underserved in our language programs. The Sight Loss Integration Teacher Toolkit is designed to fill the gap in knowledge and capacity. By offering direction on how to modify curriculum, materials, and physical spaces, the barriers for newcomers with sight loss are reduced and they are able to participate in language learning alongside their peers. This session will give a brief overview of the issues and challenges facing students with sight loss and then explore the Sight Loss Integration Teacher Toolkit, a resource co-created by Anu Pala of Anu Vision Coaching & Co and Jessica Leslie of Immigration Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS).
